WildStar Box Promo

A while back Carbine started a mystery box promo to try and accomplish two things:

  1. Get new players to jump into Nexus.
  2. Move retail stock off the shelves, so with the F2P conversion, they didn’t have to buy back stock from retailers.

Currently GameStop is selling WildStar for $9.99 a box… that gets you 30 days subscription time + the random goody box from the promo.  For those doing the math.. that means the box is $5.00 cheaper than the monthly subscription plus gives you a shot at in game goodies that are selling for 50-80 plat on Entity (US).  Which, in turn, is enough Platinum to buy CREDD, to extend your game time another thirty days.

I may have bought most of the stock from ALL the GameStops in my area (I tried Wal-Mart.. but they wouldn’t price match on this deal).

It may be time for my family to stage an intervention:

Edit:  Tally after adding 10 Codes.. both accounts are paid through December now… and I have:

3 GlitterKitty Hoverboards, 5 Snarfelynx mounts, and 2 Marauder costume sets.  So, both accounts will get 1 Character with everything (to get the title)… and I’ll probably sell the rest.  Hopefully, Carbine is making these rewards account bound with Drop 6.. so I don’t regret using them all on the same character to unlock the title.

 

Cassidy’s Mis-Adventures – Volume 1

As you’ve no doubt heard by now, WildStar is going F2P… part of the upcoming changes, is a revamp of the Arkship starting area.  To preserve the current tutorial, and, to have some fun.. I decided to start a new Alt.. and record all her leveling from 0-50 (yes, just like WildStar’s Official Zero to Fifty stream that was sadly cancelled).  To try and make it interesting for other people to watch, since I’m not streaming it live… I’ve decided to post the videos in a style reminiscent of the old “Pop-up Videos” that used to air (way back when MTV and VH1 actually aired…videos).

I did try providing the snark via voice-over..but had issues getting a good volume mix between in-game audio, and my voice-over.  I’ll keep working on it, in case people would rather have the voice-over than the pop-up snark.

Without further ado… Here’s Episode 1 of “Cassidy’s Mis-Adventures”…

In this episode, our heroine is rudely awoken from a deep Cryo-sleep.. all because “Deadeye” Brightland misses his wife…

Real Life Wins

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, the updates around here are very sporadic, and not according to any schedule…. it’s because Real Life wins… At this point, between all the other ‘adult responsibilities’ I have… I have time to either play games, or write about playing games.  I choose to play the games.

Which means, I’m not even going to try for regular updates, I’ll just be updating when something happens that I have a really strong opinion on, or have more to say than I can fit into 140 characters for Twitter.

 

Thanks for stopping by and reading when you have…  Hopefully life will settle down, and I’ll be able to get to some consistent schedule for updating.  I am going to try to stream, or post gameplay videos to YouTube, as those (typically) don’t take any additional time out of the day…

New Dungeon/Adventure Challenge Rewards

The new Dungeon/Adventure Challenge reward system is LIVE!

Last night’s maintenance window brought us a couple of bug fixes, and the much waited for adjustment to challenge rewards for dungeons/adventures.  Relevant snippet of patch notes:

 

  • Dungeons and Adventures no longer have unique rewards on Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal rewards.
  • Bronze Medal will no longer sometimes award good-quality loot.
  • All excellent-quality and superb-quality items that were previously only available on the Silver and Gold Medals are now available from the final boss.
  • Medals now also multiply the amount of money awarded from the final encounter:
    • No Medal – 100% money reward
    • Bronze Medal – 150% money reward
    • Silver Medal – 200% money reward
    • Gold Medal – 250% money reward
  • Medal rewards now confer additional loot rolls on an instance-wide loot table. Each of these rolls has a flat bonus chance to select from the final boss’s superb item list.
  • The reward structure is now as follows:
    • No Medal: 1 roll on the final boss table
    • Bronze Medal: 1 roll on the final boss table, 1 roll on an instance-wide loot table
    • Silver Medal: 1 roll on the final boss table, 2 rolls on an instance-wide loot table
    • Gold Medal: 1 roll on the final boss table, 3 rolls on an instance-wide loot table

 

I’m surprised this level of a change could be hot fixed in, and didn’t require being part of a normal weekly drop.  This loot change should help make things a little more PUG friendly, since people won’t be dropping after the first wipe anymore (which, really is poor behavior.. don’t be that guy).  I’m excited to get in and give these changes a go.. probably won’t get the chance to run a dungeon/adventure until this weekend though.   =(

Bathtub Hooch!

One of the plugs you can add to your house, is a Moonshine Cabin..  adding the Cabin allows you to try and complete the “This Ain’t No Bathtub Hooch” challenge.  Completing the challenge allows you to get one of four rewards.  A Neon Sign (BEER!), a 4 poster Granok Bed, a collection of dyes, or 70 renown.  Like other challenges, selecting the reward you want increases your odds of getting that reward..

The music playing during the challenge, is very fitting!

Get Mounted!

You like mounts don’t you?  You’ve got the shiny hover boards from beta, and/or pre-ordering.. you probably bought a Grinder… if you’re really lucky, you got a mount from one of your Boom Boxes (If so, just know that I’m very, very jealous)..

 

You want a free mount?  Sure you do…who wouldn’t.  Well, Carbine has decided to up the rewards for adding a two-step authenticator to your account… in addition to the existing rewards…Starting July 10th, anyone who adds an authenticator to their account, will get a “RetroBlade” mount added to their account inventory.
